SAP S/4HANA · FI / CO

Understand the process before configuring the system.

My SAP S/4HANA FI/CO specialisation is grounded in more than a decade across information systems, telecommunications, operations, technical coordination and, more recently, logistics, processes and data quality.

That experience shapes how I work with SAP: before thinking about a transaction or configuration, I seek to understand the process it represents, the information it needs, the dependencies involved and how its result should be checked.

SAP AS A PROFESSIONAL EVOLUTION

A new layer over systems, operations and processes.

My career does not start with SAP. I have worked with information systems, networks, infrastructure and telecommunications; coordinated small technical teams and operations; and later worked with logistics processes, reporting, data quality, E2E documentation and automation. SAP adds a new layer to that path: the integrated representation of business processes inside an ERP.

  • 01What business need are we solving?
  • 02What information does the process need?
  • 03Which elements depend on that data?
  • 04Which rules must be met?
  • 05What happens when something is not coherent?
  • 06How do we verify that the result is correct?

SAP S/4HANA FINANCE

From enterprise structure to financial posting.

The practical FI training has included work on:

Financial structure and data

Enterprise structure · chart of accounts · general ledger accounts · periods · document types

Third-party processes

Accounts Payable · Accounts Receivable · Business Partner · payment terms

Accounting and tax

General Ledger · taxes · accounting documents

Assets

Asset management and accounting

Financial operation

Reporting · closing processes

SAP S/4HANA CONTROLLING

From financial posting to internal control.

In CO I have worked with:

  • Cost centres
  • Profit centres
  • Internal orders
  • Budgets
  • Distributions
  • Assessments
  • Settlements
  • FI → CO integration
  • CO-PA
  • Reporting

FI–CO INTEGRATION

The value is in the relationships between processes.

A business process does not necessarily end where a transaction ends. An operation can create a financial document, generate a controlling allocation and become part of the information used for analysis and decisions. That is why I work with an E2E view of the chain below.

Business process → data → SAP operation → posting → allocation → control → reporting

APPLIED PROJECT

Two independent FI and CO final projects

The programme includes two independent final projects: one in Finance and one in Controlling. Both were developed on the same business scenario and shared implementation, while being documented, presented and defended independently. Both projects and both defences were graded Outstanding. Each defence was an approximately 15-minute video presentation structured around three questions from the instructor.

  • Scenario and requirements analysis
  • Configuration
  • FI–CO integration
  • Process execution
  • Testing and validation
  • Documentation
  • Control matrices
  • Evidence collection
  • Issue handling
  • Validation checkpoints
  • Reporting
  • Automation with SAP GUI Scripting

Automation does not replace functional understanding or validation. It accelerates repetitive configuration or testing tasks while retaining controls over the result.

HOW I WORK WITH SAP

Requirement → configuration → test → evidence.

My previous experience has taught me to distrust a simple idea: that a process is complete merely because it could be executed. In SAP I apply the same principle.

  1. 01

    Understand

What process needs to be represented and what outcome is expected.

  2. 02

    Configure

Translate that requirement into the system and keep its dependencies clear.

  3. 03

    Execute

Run the process and observe its behaviour.

  4. 04

    Test

    Check conditions, outcomes and integration.

  5. 05

    Document

Record configuration, incidents, decisions and evidence.

  6. 06

    Validate

Distinguish between something that merely works and a result that can be justified.

WHAT I BRING TO A SAP TEAM

Previous experience that transfers to functional work.

Processes and operations

Experience analysing how work is actually carried out, identifying dependencies, recurring errors, exceptions and improvement opportunities.

Systems

More than a decade of relevant experience in information systems, networks, infrastructure and technical incident resolution.

Data and control

Data quality · reconciliation · reporting · automation · reduced manual re-entry · traceability.

Functional analysis

Transferable experience gathering needs, understanding constraints, translating operational problems into technical solutions and coordinating users and technical profiles.

Testing and validation

A focus on checking results and their conditions, not only completing execution.

Documentation and knowledge transfer

Experience documenting technical and E2E work, prerequisites, dependencies and failure points to reduce errors and reliance on individual knowledge.

Automation and applied AI

Practical use of automation, LLMs and AI tools to analyse, build, review and document work faster, while keeping controls and validation outside the model.

NEXT STAGE

Take FI/CO from the training environment into real business processes.

The next step in my training is to complete the company placement required to certify the programme: a minimum of 30 academic hours. I am available to start promptly, with an afternoon preference compatible with my current professional activity and flexibility to consider an intensive on-site format of around 40 hours over one full-time week if a company needs it. I am particularly interested in SAP S/4HANA FI/CO, functional support, process analysis, configuration, testing, functional documentation, incidents, master data, reporting, integration and process improvement.

My goal is to learn from experienced consultants, users and managers while contributing a prior professional foundation in systems, operations, processes, documentation, data and automation.

AN EVOLUTION, NOT A RESTART

Systems → Operations → Enterprise Systems → Automation → Applied AI

SAP does not replace the previous stages of my career. It connects them with enterprise systems. Important problems rarely belong to one tool alone: they appear between people, data, decisions, systems and processes. My goal in SAP is to develop functional capability on S/4HANA FI/CO without losing that whole-system view.

I am looking for a company where I can complete my SAP FI/CO placement and keep developing professionally.

If you are looking for a SAP trainee who also brings prior experience in systems, operations, processes, data, documentation and automation, we can talk.
